Lucky 13

Isaac is now a teenager. Saying that, he has always been ageless. For example, he didn’t have a first word,

he had a first sentence: “the big truck went down the bumpy road.” For St. Patrick’s Day, he wanted to use his leprechaun treasure to buy Amazon from Jeff Bezos to run it even better. He had an internship at age 10 with the renowned men's fashion designer, Klein, Epstein, & Parker. And even today, while other kids have lemonade stands, Isaac has a mocktail business with plans for a multi-state franchise using college kids as employees; he wants to be as big as Coca Cola.

Isaac is as determined as any person I have ever known. When he was around three and still in diapers he was riding his micro-kick scooter at the skatepark in Half Moon Bay. While Liam and the other little guys were happy to ride up and down the knee high ramps at the end of the park, Isaac hiked himself and his scooter up to the top of the half pipe and carefully studied the teenagers dropping in on their skateboards. After sliding down on his butt twice, I turned to see him standing on the top with his scooter perched to launch himself down it. The teenagers gasped and asked if I was going to stop him. I didn’t. Instead, I watched Isaac perfectly drop in and nail it on the first go. The crowd went nuts. One could say this was reckless on both of our parts, but in reality, you had to know how carefully Isaac maps out everything he does to understand why it was anything but.

Isaac age 0-11

I’ll eagerly be beside and cheer Isaac on throughout adolescence and beyond, but as with the post I wrote for Liam, I’d be remiss if I didn’t at least include a few Isaacisms from his first years:

“Hi, baby butter bread”  (his favorite snack)

“Dino-roar” (instead of dinosaur)

“Poison milk” (poison oak)

“I want to dye” and “I’m ready to dye” (at Easter)

“A salami (tsunami) can get to us”

Isaac has always had a way with words

Isaac will kick off his teenage years by working as a junior lifeguard this summer, so if you ever find yourself in trouble at the beach, look for Isaac to keep a cool head and keep you out of harm’s way. And after the crises has passed, join him for a mocktail tasting at Sage Bakehouse here in Montara. It will help take the edge off.

We love and are so proud of who you’ve been, who you are, and who you will become in the years ahead, Mr. Isaac.
